| The goal of every company is to reach Phase 4 where they are receiving 5,000+ orders per day. Sometimes this can be incredibly overwhelming and the dynamics change again, exponentially. At this point, the company wants conformity and predictability. Patterns of organizationally accepted practice are established. New ideas are generally pushed aside now as the company becomes less averse to risk. They feel like they need to protect the volume at all costs. The company is also less concerned about effectiveness or productivity. Internal policies and procedures become paramount. The management team broadens to assign responsibilities to multiple vice presidents which leads to "kingdom building". The need for systems and processes are important, but not as critical as results or efficiencies. QA becomes everything to help eliminate problems with shipments, etc. Managing Growth The leadership style required at each growth stage is different from the required management style. The management operates the company's business today. The leadership within the company prepares the organization for the next phase of growth and executes the transition. |
