Can The Disabled Find Success in MLM? by Craig Mattice

So, you may be disabled. Maybe you use assistive devices to help you function throughout the day, like wheelchairs and forearm crutches. How many times have people said to you, “Oh, but you’re disabled, you can’t have a home based business.” And then they further voiced their opinions about network marketing and MLM possibly not being a viable business option for the disabled.
Maybe because of your disability, you’re no longer the “sharpest knife in the draw,” but that doesn’t mean you don’t have aspirations and dreams of building a personal business, making new friends, helping other people, and becoming personally and financially successful. And, let’s get one thing straight right up front. There are more people who are disabled between their ears with no dreams than physically disabled people with dreams.
Don’t be convinced having a disability means you have insurmountable “problems.” Instead, think of it as having interesting, unique “challenges.” What do I mean by that? Just the word, “problems,” used in this context has a negative connotation and is depressing. Even when “problems” are corrected, they are referred to as “fixed”--still on the negative side. On the other hand, the word, “challenges,” generates a whole different paradigm of thinking. “Challenges” are just that and can be overcome by going through, over, under, or around them to achieve success. So, your “challenges” can be transformed into accomplishments. This is a much more positive and appealing way of thinking, don’t you agree?
I know for a fact that if you can wheel around your house and up to a desk, reasonably communicate on the phone, type with at least a pencil or finger, and use a computer, you can be successful in your own home based business. Yes, that is a fact! Don’t you dare let anyone tell you different! I can say that because I’m living proof. I live every day of my life with health challenges as I am totally disabled.
Check out WAPD. You will find a wealth of pertinent information. The World Association of Persons with DisAbilities (WAPD) is a nonpartisan, nonprofit association that believes all are entitled to a high quality of life, and it advances the interests of persons with disabilities at the national, state, local, and home levels. WAPD represents this group of one in five residents on Earth to assist them in becoming alive, involved, and effective in their daily living. WAPD links the "disAbled" to current "leading edge" disAbility information.
MLM can be a great fit for disabled individuals who desire a satisfying business of their own. Look for companies that have a strong ability to build online, have an effective marketing system, quality products, and strong training and support systems in place. There are hundreds of MLM businesses available through quick searches on the Internet.
General Internet Disclaimer: “Warning! Warning! Will Robinson!” Do not believe everything you read and hear!
The World Association of Persons with disAbilities website (WAPD) is a great place to search for MLM business opportunities. Another great source where you can learn about some top quality companies is the Direct Sales Association--DSA. DSA has strong requirements for membership. This is not to say if quality companies are not members, they should not be evaluated. There are also many sources on the Internet and contacts on MLM.com you should check out that have published eBooks on the right way to evaluate an MLM company and opportunity.
Make it a point to visit professional forums, such as those found at MLM.com and WAHM.com, to search and review information on companies or even specific people you may be interested in partnering with in your business. You will soon learn who the reputable and professional participants are who visit these forums and so generously share their knowledge and experiences.
You know you have these desires, drives, and dreams of your own business success inside you! Don’t ignore them, especially in this day and age when there is so much opportunity available. Don’t listen to the friends and family who think they know best about this and blindly discourage you. Odds are, they haven’t done any research and aren’t willing to do any to get the actual facts. I refer to this type of people who claim they are trying to help as “dream stealers”! Don’t think you need to justify your dreams to anyone but yourself. Research, make new friends, have fun, and make a new life for yourself. You can do this!
