Are You A Victim of the Dreaded "NBT" Syndrome? by Don Egnor

Thursday, May 21, 2009

Hello, my name is Don, and yes, I was a victim of the dreaded “NBT” syndrome!

I’ll start out by saying that the “NBT” syndrome is an insidious problem that many folks in the MLM industry are plagued by, yet don’t recognize or readily admit to. I know that in my case, it wasn’t until I understood exactly what this syndrome was and how it affected my life and my business that I was finally able to see how my faulty thinking led to my personal and business demise. Time and time again, the ravages of this syndrome cost me not only thousands of dollars, but also many of my closest friends and acquaintances.

Now, fully recovered from the “NBT” syndrome, I’ve seen the error of my ways and begged forgiveness from friends, family and acquaintances, thankfully repairing many damaged relationships and now have my network marketing business back on track.

If you think you may be a“NBT” junkie then take a minute to read the warning signs so that you can protect yourself and the ones you love.

  • Do you join internet programs that make claims of working only minutes a day with promises of making large sums of money quickly only to find out “this wasn’t the one” and jump into the next one?

  • Are you always on the look out for a pre-launch hoping to be “at the top”? Generally the top positions are filled before the MLM pre-launches. Besides, it’s best to choose a company that has at least a 3 year track record since new companies come and go -- along with your money.

  • Do you believe that multiple opportunities will bring in multiple streams of income? Yes, diversification is a good thing, but the market should also be diverse. Don’t put all your eggs in one MLM basket. And remember, multiple companies’ most likely means multiplying your out go as well as your time that all could be laser focused towards one company to maximize your efforts.

“NBT” will cause you to make bad decisions, give up, not finish what you started and lead you down the path of indecision and ruin.

The Allure of “NBT”

How many emails and phone calls and internet ads do you get on a daily basis from someone trying to get you involved in their home based business? These individuals feed off people like you and I by promoting and enticing with their “NBT”.

They give you stories, testimonials and videos of MLM success, or whatever it takes to pull you in. They make it sound like if you don’t choose their “NBT” then you choose to be a looser, a failure, and never have anything. That if you’ve failed at everything else, then “this” opportunity is the one that will make you rich and make all your dreams come true.

They will say things like, “ this is a chance of a lifetime, the price will go up after we launch, we are only taking the first 500 people, free distributor enrollment for a limited time only”, among hundreds of other ruse’s and so called incentives in order to get you to jump on board now.  Resist the urge to make an impulsive, emotional decision.  Check out the compensation plan. Do they have mlm marketing tools? Is there new distributor training?  Get to know the company and your upline MLM leadership. Ask questions, and know that you are making a good, informed decision before you jump ship on your current home based business.

Do’s and Don’ts of “NBT”

Do “commit to be committed!” Once you make up your mind to start your business, be it totally internet driven, person to person, MLM, direct selling (relationship marketing) don’t let the “NBT” get between you and your business goals. The “NBT” will cause you to second guess what you are doing.  Generally it doesn’t matter which business you choose. If you’ve done your homework, and commit to it, persevere and push through the hard times and put the time and effort into it, you will have some level of success.

Don’t get involved with an MLM opportunity, until you are 100% sure of what it is that you actually want to do. Make sure that you are passionate about your choice…. and make sure it’s YOUR passion and not someone else’s.

Do be focused on your current business opportunity and devote your time and resources to that business. If you subscribe to the “NBT” it is more difficult to have success or be as effective in what you are pursuing. The “NBT” divides up your valuable time and resources or causes you to give up everything you’ve put into your business just to chase an elusive promise.

Don’t lose sight of what it is that you are trying to accomplish with your business, stay away from the negative people, stay true to yourself, be persistent, never give up, always be there for your team, always be willing to go above and beyond and most important of all…do not fall for the pitch and the ploy of the “NBT”.

Find a good company that you are passionate about and stick with it! Put 100% of your time and effort into your current choice and resist the “NBT” syndrome of jumping from one company to the next with the hopes that THIS is the one where you will make it big.

If you are still out there looking for the “NBT” then you either have chosen the wrong business for you, you aren’t fully committed to the business you have, you may expect your upline or downline to do the work for you, or you’re always on the look out for greener pastures where you can make a quick buck. For those types of people, it doesn’t matter which company they join, they will never “stick” and be satisfied. They will be among the thousands of people that are still looking for the "Next Big Thing" wasting their time, and in the end, have nothing to show for it.
