How to Be Different and Unique in the MLM Sea of Competition

What do you do differently on a daily basis to make sure you aren’t just like everyone else in MLM doing the same old thing? How do you set yourself apart from the masses? How do you convince individuals to join you in your network marketing business when they’re being pulled in all different directions?

Is there a huge trick to getting peoples’ attention to share your story with them—your “why”—the things that drive you and the reasons why your MLM opportunity is the one for them? Or, is there some kind of fairy dust that can be magically dispersed via the internet, phone lines, texting, Skype, or whatever, to get people to listen? Are there trigger words, splash pages, auto-responders, capture pages, mind controls, or emotions that get individuals interested in you and your opportunity?

When you think you’ve found the trick or where to get the fairy dust, let me know, because I want to see a fool and his money soon parted! In other words, there is nothing on the free market to be had that will give you the power to control people and make them do your bidding—at least not on this planet. Just look at all of the marketers on the internet today trying anything and everything to part you from your money.

And sometimes, it may appear that some of these guys do have a supply of that coveted fairy dust, because there are always some MLM prospects that do fall for all of the empty promises and blue sky—the hype. When this happens, these individuals unfortunately waste their money, time, and resources. They go out and hustle for six to eight weeks or longer and do not get anything in return for their hard work. They have such a bad experience with MLM, they vow never to even take a look at another network marketing opportunity.

One of the worst things you can ever do is just throw your business in someone’s face without even asking if they are really interested. This is the biggest problem I see today on all of these social websites. People use them the wrong way. These sites are for making friends, contacts and developing relationships—nothing more!

You should make people aware you are in business and have information readily available if they want to explore it further. However, let them make the decision when they are ready to look at what you offer, and the things you can do for them. The worst possible thing you can do is try and shove something down their throats.

People do not want to be sold on anything; they want to sell themselves on it. This is just human nature and we can’t change it. I think it is due to 1,000s of years of human experience with salespeople who use sales tactics that originated in the stone age. No one likes to be hit over the head with a club!

You need to really care about and enjoy meeting and working with new friends. If you come across as anything but a friend, then people will shy away from you and tell their friends about it. If you come across as a salesman, then just quit MLM and go back to or start selling cars, houses, or whatever!

It is unfortunate that some salesman type network marketers cut corners when it comes to a relationship by indiscriminately “spamming people.” For example, they go to blogs and forums not to participate and make helpful comments, but solely to advertise and recruit. They harvest email addresses off people’s websites and then spam those individuals. I hate this with a passion and I’m sure I’m not alone. It’s funny that these guys don’t realize there is no way I would ever pay any attention to them or their opportunities because it is obvious they do not have my best interest at heart.

On the flip side, there is a correct principle called “The Value Proposition” that is the true key to success in MLM. It is: Money and success will come back to you when you offer enough value to the marketplace and the people you come into contact with. Making this your golden rule to live by in your network marketing business will set you apart from the army of salesmen types in the MLM world.

So what is the best way to offer value to MLM prospects? You should offer to help them in their network marketing endeavors in any way you can, mean it when you say it, and follow through! If you don’t, how can you expect anyone to respect or listen to you? When you do things the wrong way it will come back eventually and bite you.

The biggest secret to get people on your side and to like you is simply to be real, honest—a true friend. Above all, just be yourself. Don’t be a fake. Don’t try to sell anything to anyone or push them into doing anything they don’t want to do or have any hesitation about.

When you really are trying to help people and are sincere about it, it will come across and make a good impression. On the other hand, if you try and “fake it till you make it,” then you will just set yourself up for failure. This is not the end result you are looking for. Always treat people the way that you want to be treated—with the utmost respect. Never lie. Never make empty promises. Always do what you say you are going to do. Don’t ever let people down. It will pay off in the long run.

You just never know when someone you come in contact with and genuinely try to help may turn out to be the one searching for your particular opportunity. That individual could be your next associate or business partner and will rely on you to help them get started off on the right foot. The bottom line is you can’t go wrong with people when you live by the value proposition and make that the trait that distinguishes you as different and unique in the great MLM sea of competition!
